Golden Stag Hotpot Bar, Penang

Designed by and photographed for Being Design

The Golden Stag is flanked by two Door Gods (门神) - the former representing nature, and the latter representing mankind. Together, this triad of lanterns is a nod towards our shared trajectory and an exploration of possible futures.
Like stepping onto the chaotic streets of a futuristic cyberpunk city, you're greeted by a barrage of flashing neon signs, and each one clamours for your attention.

There's a lot to take in, and you're not quite sure where to look. You make your way through, passing by rows of ovoid lamps that guide you to your table.
You take your seat, and with your eyes, continue your journey. It's your first time in the city, and you want to see everything.
Swimming in an ocean of lights, sounds, and aromas.

Amidst the pandemonium of glowing lights and kaleidoscopic colours, you meet the gaze of a pair of calm, watchful eyes.
Regal, resplendent, and larger than life - the titular Golden Stag graces you with its presence in the form of a hand-painted lantern commissioned by local artist Thomas Powell.
