及ばぬ鯉の滝登り (oyobanu koi no takinobori), which translates to “A koi unable to swim up the waterfall,” is a well-known Japanese proverb that originates from the legend of the dragon koi. It represents the idea of overcoming adversity and staying resilie
An ancient tale tells of a vast school of golden Koi that swam upstream along the Yellow River, defying the river's current. Upon reaching a formidable waterfall, many turned back, swept away by the river's flow.
But a determined few pressed on, leaping ceaselessly in a bid to conquer the waterfall. Their relentless efforts drew the attention of local demons, who, in a cruel jest, made the waterfall even higher.
After a century of unwavering determination, one Koi finally crested the waterfall. The gods, acknowledging its indomitable spirit, transformed it into a resplendent golden dragon—a symbol of unparalleled power, strength, and unyielding perseverance
